Lloyd Catering Equipment is a family-run business that has  helped to shape hotels and restaurants across the UK for more than 70 years. The company has always been quick to embrace new ways of working, and when it spotted an opportunity to enhance customer experience by deploying an innovative new form of technology into the business, Cannon PR was tasked with maximising the media opportunity.

Embracing innovation
in commercial kitchen design

Background

For any business operating in the hospitality industry, the design of the restaurant is a key consideration and one that can directly impact  the functionality of the business. Movement of customers and waiting staff, efficiency in the way the kitchen operates and even customer experience can all be directly impacted by design.

Lloyd Catering Equipment began exploring ways of bringing its designs to life by harnessing virtual reality technology. Unlike standard plans and 3D rendered illustrations, the innovative technology transports customers into a life-sized environment, enabling every element to be carefully scrutinised.

Approach

Following several months of careful testing and planning, Lloyd Catering Equipment invited respected chef and TV presenter Simon Rimmer to be one of the first people to put the technology through its paces. Impressed with the results, the visit presented a golden media opportunity to maximise the reach and impact of the story.

A primary consideration for Lloyd Catering Equipment was forging links with specialist trade publications operating in the foodservice industry. We also recognised that the use and application of the technology, and its implications for the sector, also provided opportunities to showcase Lloyd Catering Equipment’s innovative work to a business audience.

Cannon PR devised a media-friendly press release, obtaining consent and approval from  Simon Rimmer, supporting photography was commissioned and the story distributed to a tailored list of journalists.

Results

Prior to distribution, Lloyd Catering Equipment tasked Cannon PR with securing media coverage in three key trade titles. The story achieved widespread media coverage, both within the all-important foodservice titles and regional business publications. Cannon PR also successfully secured media coverage in all three of the priority publications highlighted by Lloyd Catering Equipment.

Cannon PR’s work successfully contributed to an increase in new business enquiries, and it also led to the company successfully securing work with the operator of a national restaurant chain.
