Doing our best to help South Yorkshire’s Scouts

South Yorkshire Scouts

Rotherham-based Cannon PR has been busy helping South Yorkshire”s Scouting community to “be prepared” by offering pro-bono media relations support to assist with it”s recent Synergise Camp.

The camp saw more than 1200 Scouts of all ages descend on Hesley Wood Scout Camp Site to take part in a varied range of activities ranging from climbing and archery to circus skills and water activities.

A traditional camp fire took place on Saturday evening and was followed by a special talent show which gave budding musicians, dancers and magicians an opportunity take to the stage to show off their skills. The weekend also saw a special Mad Hatter’s tea party take place, as part of the tenth anniversary celebrations of Explorer and Networking Scouting in South Yorkshire.

Each district provided its own range of activities and challenges, and exhibitions were also provided by a number of external organisations including Woodhead Mountain Rescue, Imagination Learning, SAYLS (Sheffield Academy for Youth Learning) the Samaritans, Shelterbox and South Yorkshire Police.

Andy Marsden, Assistant County Commissioner for development, South Yorkshire County Scout Association said:

“The weekend was a terrific success and helped to show the many varied and different types of activities available through Scouting. It was terrific to see so many young people take part in the camp, meet others in the county. Camps like this can help to forge and build friendships that can last a lifetime and it really helped to show scouting at its very best.”

Over the past twelve months Scouting in South Yorkshire has grown by 6.7% in the past twelve months, helping take total UK membership to 525,327. Scouting provides a comprehensive range of activities for children and young people aged between 6 to 25.
